To commemorate the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, my Advanced Typography class was assigned a book project in which we created booklets of Barack Obama’s Inaugural Address. My design harkens back to 1950s-era optimism with design elements from that time—simple shapes and bold cutouts. The booklet has a number of various page sizes and folds that break up the speech into a more natural rhythm. Included at the end of a book is an attached mini-spread of Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
